Indoor Entertainment - with Kids On A Rainy Day....

It has been a rather wet week, which has meant a lot of inside play time for us.  The end of the school holidays, and a bit of rainy weather means entertainment ideas outside of the house for my little ones is pretty minimal. For those of you with kids at home you will appreciate that after one full day at home the kids can start climbing the walls. So, I thought it might be a bit of fun to invite some friends around and let the kids decorate some cupcakes. If the Mums could fit in a hot cuppa and chat at the same time it would be a win-win situation. With Alba's help and a relatively effortless attempt on my behalf, (meaning I used a packet mix.....shh!) we whipped up some fluffy vanilla cupcakes. Twenty minutes later..12 yummy cupcakes ready to go!

Now the decorating. I set up the dining table with all sorts of fun decorations, 100’s & 1000’s, confetti sprinkles, marshmallows, smarties just to name a few. Recently during a night of my religious viewing of 'Better Homes an…

The Handmade Series...Greta's Handcraft...'What's In The Basket"?

A few weeks back I introduced you all to my mother (Vivienne) and her shop 'Greta's Handcraft'. After some brainstorming I thought why not let her lose on this blog space once a month to share with you all 'What's in the Basket'. A little round up series each month to show you what she has made and share her creativity and knowledge.

Hope you Enjoy :) x

Hi, my name is Vivienne and one of my key roles in life, is being mum to my 5children, 2 beautiful daughter-in-laws, and I am the very proud Grandma to 8 Gorgeous grandchildren.

In my spare time, I have the pleasure of owning my own business "Greta's Handcraft Centre" which is located in Lindfield, a northern suburb of Sydney. The shop has been running for approx 48 years, of which I have owned it for a bit over 10 years. Greta's is a place where you can purchase yarns to Knit and Crochet as well as Quilting Materials. We do lessons in all 3 crafts and are available at all times to listen and hel…

Taking The Training Wheels Off.....

I live in a world of 'First' at the moment. Last week it was a 'First Hair-cut' and now this week it was Alba's first time to ride a bike with no training wheels. As quick as they came off, she was quick to take it in her stride and ride away free as a bird. I recently heard a saying something along the lines of 'Once a child can ride a bike, it's like they can experience true freedom for the first time'. Think about it...No one to help hold you up, support you, do it for you, make that decision to turn left/right for you, stop you. They hold all the cards and can just ride. Ok sure if there is danger around then you're going to have to step in, BUT you get the drift... basically they are in complete control for the first time in their little world.
So as I tick another 'First' of her list, I wonder what the next one will be.....

I don't remember how old I was when I learnt to ride, but I do remember the broken arm I got at a…

Mint Chocolate Brownie.....

Who likes Chocolate? Who likes Mint?..... Who likes them mixed together in a sweet moist succulent Brownie??? If you don't, you're odd! (just joking - you're okay!)

This week I was dreaming about a minty chocolate brownie, so I got about and experimented. If you're on a diet this recipe is probably not for you BUT the mint patties I used did say "50% less fat" so I guess this makes them a little bit healthier....Right?!

Here's what you're going to need... for delicious, delectable treat -

Brownie Ingredients:
220g Cadbury Dark Chocolate, broken up into single pieces
250g Butter, room temp / chopped
1 3/4 Cups Brown Sugar
1/3 Cup Cocoa Powder
1 1/4 Cups Plain (all-purpose) Flour
1/4 Teaspoon Baking Powder
4 Eggs
4 Nestle Mint Patties, Chopped (for a mild mint flavour - want stronger? add a few more)
1 Nestle Peppermint Crisp bar, Crushed (again for stronger peppermint taste - add one more)
1/2 Cup Cadbury Milk Choc Chips (1 cup - if you snack while you pr…

When A Baby Becomes A Boy...

Well I finally did it, yesterday we visited the hairdresser and it was there that my baby turned into a little boy. With a quick snip of the scissiors.... gone was that shabby, sometimes curly, beachy blonde baby.
Actually it's wasn't a sad thing for me, it was kinda sweet and fun, for the both of us but for different reasons. Axel was blissfully unaware of the significance of the big event in his life that was taking place as he happily chatted up the  hairdressers (the ladies man that he is!).
On the other hand I was asking if they could please save me some of his long locks for his baby book to remember the moment. A book that is in bad need of some updating (slack mother over here!).
He kissed good bye the baby in the mirror, then happily sat back while the hairdresser did her thing!

There are only so many First's in a childs life. As a parent you want to celebrate and remember every one of them.
What are some of the FIRSTs that your child is going through at the moment?…

52 Weeks Project // WEEK ONE......

A stunning day exploring our little corner of the world. With a short 500m bush walk to a pocket of paradise called 'Little Beach'. Alba and Axel had such a wonderful day, sitting in rock pools letting the waves just lap over them. Our families New Years resolution is to commit to taking our children on new adventures, discovering new places close to home. Week one turned out pretty perfect I reckon.

Well Christmas is done. New Years is done. Bring on Australia Day! Although looking around the local supermarkets it looks like Easter will be here tomorrow! Crazy how fast they move on. Anyway, I'm sorry I have been a little M.I.A of late but with all the celebrations, I decided to take a little blogging holiday.
I thought for my first one back I would put out a little 'Taking Stock' post.... An exercise I thought might be nice to do every now and again. Get me thinking about where I'm at, how I'm feeling and more so, where I want this year to head...
